Suspended among the clouds, an acorn cup cradles a kauri cone—a meeting of two ancient worlds. Together they symbolize the enduring strength of the forest, uniting the mighty oak traditions of Europe with the towering kauri of Aotearoa. Both begin as humble seeds, carrying within them the potential to become giants.
Standing watch are two saddlebacks crowned with rewarewa horns, while a silvereye, adorned with pōhutukawa horns, rests among them. Though imagined, these horned birds draw upon ancient symbolism: horns have long represented protection, wisdom, and guardianship, while birds are often seen as messengers between earth and sky. Combined, they become watchful keepers of the natural world.
Surrounded by cloud and lifted above the landscape, these guardians stand at the threshold between the earthly and the unseen, quietly watching over the forests below.
Guardians reflects on stewardship, resilience, and the continuing spirit of nature—reminding us that even the mightiest forests begin as small seeds entrusted to the care of those who protect them.

This 'Limited Edition' photographic artwork consists of 8 - (all Editions of One Unique Size) unframed prints on quality, museum-grade paper, and archival pigment ink of the highest standard which guarantees long-lasting colour and saturation. Plus 1 Canvas Print - Edition of One (Unique one-of-a-kind piece), Giclee Print on Breathing Color Lyve, museum-grade canvas and archival pigment ink, the canvas is wrapped and stapled around a 40mm deep wooden stretcher frame, ready to hang on the wall. Every piece also includes an extra hand embellished flourish of bronze ink making them truly unique, one of a kind, artworks. Each print and canvas is signed and editioned on the front by hand, and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, indicating that you have purchased my original work.
SHIPPING
Shipping is free when shipped within New Zealand. All prints are carefully packaged and shipped out of Rebecca King's studio in Auckland, New Zealand. You can expect your order to ship, depending on the number of prints we have in the works, typically 2-3 weeks from your purchase date.
International Orders: Orders outside of NZ will require an additional cost for shipping.
